“I cannot paint just another portrait, no matter how well I capture one’s features. (There are plenty of artists who can do that.) I have to add another dimension. My portraits have to be distinctive.
I want to smile while I am painting. (It’s a solitary endeavor.) I want to knock the socks off of the person who commissioned me. I want his or her family and friends to see the person as never seen before.
To date, it has been most satisfying for all involved.”
